Rails ActiveRecord::Base missing find_all_by_date_range

Hello everyone,
A current project I am working on required finding records within a certain date range. Many other projects I have worked on also required something similar. So, I decided to create a Rails gem to handle this. The gem is available on GitHub. http://github.com/timmatheson/find-all-by-date-range/tree/master

I hope this helps anyone else needing this feature of ActiveRecord::Base.

DIY Desktop Virtual Reality Display on the cheap (Nintendo WII Only)

Johnny Lee, and his WIImote hacking tips has created a way to make 3D games (for the WII) a reality using DIY IR glasses. This is a really cool concept, the software tracks the movement of your head and adjusts the current display accordingly. I am definitely going to experiment with this technology.

3D Desktop on Windows similar to XGL+Compiz

Linux offers some great stuff to the desktop user. Especially with new desktop environments like Dapper, Edgy and Breezy. However many people are still shackled to their Windows operating systems for various reasons. One of my favorite eye candy apps for Linux is XGL+Compiz which allows you to have multiple desktops mapped to a 3D cube which you can rotate in 3D space to find the desktop you want. XGL doesn’t stop there it also supports window wobble and other great visual effects but all that is another post. I wanted to find some software that could at least come close to XGL and was please to find Yod’m 3D. Yod’m 3D offers the virtual desktop system with all the desktops mapped to a 3D cube similar to XGL but with less features. You can easily rotate the cube horizontally not vertically as with XGL. Yod’m 3D is free and is a great application, so check it out.

Software summary:
The default shortcut keys (which are customizable) are Ctr+Alt [ARROW LEFT] or [ARROW RIGHT] to rotate the cube. You can also Ctrl+Alt and drag with the mouse to rotate the desktops around. There is a zoom feature and customizable background images also.

Google AdSense banning users from participation

Google AdSense banned me from participation in their program last summer. The resons to me are not clear but there seems to be a number of other people in the same boat. Appearntly I was banned for “fraudulent clicks” which translates into the same IP or computer system clicking on ads published by an AdSense account.

If you create an AdSense account at a public WiFi spot or a public network and someone else accesses your ads from the same network then you may appear to be generating “fradulent clicks” to Google and it wont be long until they ban you even if you did not intentionally click your ad’s. So what can someone do once they are banned from use of Google AdSense. Well according to Google they will not reinstate any previously banned accounts. Well I am banned and I plan to try and get unbanned from the program. I will be posting about it here to keep anyone interested up to date on my progress.

Find your celebrity look alike

Have you ever been told you favor a celebrity? Well now myheritage.com has an online tool that will take a 100 X 100 pixels or greater photo of you and compare it against celebrity photos to find your twin. I wasnâ€™t too impressed with some of the results this widget came up with but hey itâ€™s a neat idea.

Using the tool requires registration and they try to trick you into filling out a survey just click “no thanks” at the page where they ask for your SSN (crazy talk these days) and your on your way to finding your famous twin or so they say.Link

Tigger socks teen in the face

Tiggers love bouncing, we all know that. Well apparently they also love boxing as this video shows Tigger connecting with a left hook to a 14 year old boys face. The teen went to the hospital and the Tigger was suspended. The plush bully has yet to apologize to the boy or his family.
