Google Globe Put Yourself on the Globe

While recently browsing the web I came across a website titled Google Globe. Those of you familiar with Google Earth will know that Google has given us yet another useful application to use. Google Earth is a desktop application that you can use to search the globe. Not only does it give you maps and directions but it also provides high quality real satellite style imagery from above. Allowing you to check up on your childhood residence or even a place you went for vacation. What ever the search Google Earth is by far another useful tool to add to the toolbox. Google Globe is a web site that allows users to add their favorite Google Earth location to a database. User’s can then search and sift through other peoples favorite Google Earth locations. It’s really a good idea and I am surprised Google didn’t do this first. Having access to all the databases at Google they could turn up information such as most frequently searched locations and even a favorites menu. This new era of technology has brought upon us a whole new way of doing things and it’s only just begun. I can remember seeing this same technology on a website called GlobeExplorer which is actually still up and running. Google purchased there Google Earth technology from a company called Keyhole around October of 2004 and has since developed its own version of this technology. Why did Google buy Keyhole’s search technology? Well there could be many wrong or right answers to that question. Google has been very active lately when it comes to buying technology and companies. In my opinion Google has made its presence providing quality information resources to internet users. The only way for Google to grow is to expand there resources. Therefore I feel it is only appropriate for Google to try and buy every information resource they find  useful. The fact is Google has become a major player in the information world and their not going anywhere. So we shouldn’t be surprised to see this behavior from Google and we can probably plan to see more of this in the near future.
